Taking the right 'Steps 2 Success'

If you are unemployed, Steps 2 Success is an exciting opportunity for you to build upon your current skills and experience, to progress into work. The Department for Employment and Learning’s NEW employment programme provides a personalised service and is tailored to meet your needs to help you into work.

How Steps 2 Success works
The Steps 2 Success programme is being delivered by Roe Valley Community Education Forum in throughout Limavady Borough. The programme is mandatory if you have been on Jobseeker's Allowance for a specific time. While on the programme, you will have the opportunity to access a range of support initiatives, which will be personally tailored to your needs – to help you to progress into work.

Through Steps 2 Success, Roe Valley Community Education Forum will:
• Develop your skills to assist you to overcome barriers to get into work e.g.carry out a work experience
placement, training courses and essential skills courses in reading, writing, maths and computers.
• Provide practical advice on looking for work, writing CVs, filling in application forms and
practicing interviews.
• Provide you with access to computers, the internet and facilities to help search for work through
our Job Search classes.
• Signpost you to support with personal issues e.g. debt advice, managing a health condition
or counselling support
• Help with meeting additional costs, where appropriate, during your job search

Progression to Employment plan
While on the programme Roe Valley Community Education Forum will provide you with support, agreed with you, to achieve your jobs goals. This is called a ‘Progression to Employment Plan’ and will be personal to you. We will help you by:
• allocating an adviser or ‘Employment Consultant’ to you when you join the programme
• discussing your job goals, previous work experience and individual circumstances
• agreeing your personal 'Progression to Employment Plan' with you, which will set out what
will be done to help you get a job
• agreeing the ‘in-work support’ available to help you stay in work when you find a job

Please note: When taking part in Steps 2 Success you will still continue to receive your social security benefit and must continue to sign every fortnight. Failure to sign could affect your JSA.

How you take part in Steps 2 Success
You have to take part in Steps 2 Success if you are unemployed and on Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) for:
• nine months if aged 18 to 24
• 12 months if aged 25 or over

If you are on JSA and are referred to Steps 2 Success as an early entrant, after 13 weeks, you must also take part in the programme. This will happen if your Employment Service adviser feels you would benefit from early entry to the programme.

How long the programme lasts
Steps to Success runs for 52 weeks. However, support is available for up to 78 weeks if your adviser thinks you would benefit from joining the programme early.
In summary, support to help you find work will be available:
• for up to 12 months, if you are in receipt of JSA
• for up to 18 months if you are in receipt of JSA and your adviser considers that you would benefit
from joining the programme after 13 weeks; or are receiving Employment Support Allowance
(ESA) (Work Related Activity Group) and have agreed with your Employment Service adviser that
Steps 2 Success would help you achieve your job goals
• for up to 12 months for clients on Income Support, Pension Credit and Employment Support
Allowance (ESA) (Support Group) who volunteer to enter the programme. If you are in receipt of
ESA you will receive help to prepare for work and will not be required to either apply for jobs
or undertake work experience.

Travel assistance and childcare costs
When taking part in the programme travel costs will be paid. You may also get help if you need to arrange childcare for young children. Roe Valley Community Education Forum will give you details of available assistance.
